The aim of PADYC is to
coordinate the efforts of the many
organisations and individuals who are
opposing the imminent demolition of the
historic Cairns Yacht Club
building.
On the following pages and
links, you will see the history of the
building, originally a rice mill built in
1895, then the home of the Cairns Aquatic
Club, later known as the Cairns Sailing
Club and until now, the Cairns Yacht
Club.
It is important however, to
understand that PADYC is not associated
with the sporting organisation the Cairns
Yacht Club.
PADYC is concerned with the
broader issue of saving an historic
building for the people of Cairns,
Queensland, and Australia, and the
thousands of tourists who would be
intrigued to understand our links to the
past.

We invite you to cruise through our pages
to;
It is our greatest wish that the Cairns Port
Authority, a statutory body of the State Government, and
the State Government itself, would rescind the decision
to demolish or remove this building from its
site.
We ask that in preparation for next year’s
150th Anniversary of the establishment of
the State of Queensland, that it be given it back to its
rightful custodians; the people of
Cairns.
